Coordinated School Health Model

BHSA promotes and advocates for a process called the Coordinated School Health Model. The Coordinated School Health Model is a planned program designed to enhance the health promoting nature of a school district by altering the culture or environment of the school and surrounding community.  A team of people representing the following eight areas within the school and community, make up the Coordinated School Health Model:

  • Health Education
  • Physical Education
  • Health Services
  • Nutrition Services
  • Counseling and Psychological Services
  • Healthy School Environment
  • Health Promotion for Staff
  • Family/Community Involvement

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, " Schools by themselves cannot—and should not be expected to—solve the nation’s most serious health and social problems. Families, health care workers, the media, religious organizations, community organizations that serve youth, and young people themselves also must be systematically involved."
