Did you know that Ohio is one of only two states without state Health Education standards?
State education standards provide a definition of quality for local schools. By establishing a minimum level of health education, Ohio can be confident that all students are receiving basic health information, while still giving schools options for greater achievement. A campaign is being started to promote the adoption of state standards for Ohio. Click here to see how you or your organization can support these efforts.
American Heart Association to host Advocacy Day on March 14, 2012

Continuing on the success of the November 16, 2011 Advocacy Day, the American Heart Association invites those interested to join their Advocacy Day 2012. Those interested are encouraged to register for this event. There is no cost to participate.

Health Education: A Skills Based Approach is a two-day workshop that will be held * Friday, February 24, 2012 and * Friday, March 30, 2012 in Cincinnati, Ohio. This workshop is set up as two interactive training sessions designed to teach educators to develop curriculum, teaching units and lesson plans that focus on building the critical thinking and decision making skills students need to establish good health behaviors. Our facilitators are Dr. Susan Telljohann & Dr. Joseph Dake of the University of Toledo. Details (including a link to on-line registration) are now available!
“Skills for Health Behavior Change-- Because Healthy Students are Better Learners” is a three hour workshop that focuses on helping participants identify and implement appropriate educational activities (based on theory) for successful health education and promotion programs in a school setting. Although a school setting is used throughout the workshop as an example, these skills can be generalized to other settings. Choose to attend this workshop on March 1 in Columbus OR April 25 in Cincinnati. Registration is now open.

Upcoming Partner Sponsored Trainings:
ODE Physical Education Evaluation Training Workshops - Senate Bill (SB) 210 - Healthy Choices for Heathly Children Act was signed into law on June 18, 2010. The law contains a Report Card Indicator that requires students to obtain a Physical Education Evaluation. The Ohio Department of Education will hold FREE Workshops throughout the state beginning on Friday, January 20, 2012 to familarize educators with the evaluation process.
